Port Services acquires energy sector training specialist in move that will bring new growth
Offshore energy project management and engineering specialist Port Services Engineering Ltd – part of the Port Services Group - has acquired a majority stake in Ellon based management system and training company Training Competency Consultancy Ltd (TCC).
TCC is a specialist in health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) management systems and training for the offshore industry, and as well as Scotland has overseas operations in Brazil, Azerbijan, the Middle East and West Africa.
According to Paul Clark, operations director for Port Services Group, the acquisition – which has been made for an undisclosed sum - provides a neat complement to the range of services offered by PSEL, providing customers with an innovative and added value approach to project management through the delivery of high quality training.
PSEL will also be able to utilise TCC’s overseas experience to support its focus on delivering its services abroad.
“Although PSEL’s roots are firmly based in Scotland, the demand for our turnkey services worldwide shows how quickly we have developed,” said Mr Clark.
“We are delighted to welcome TCC to the Group and extend a very warm welcome to their employees, customers and suppliers.”
James Murphy, managing director of TCC, said: “I am extremely proud of the achievements of the TCC team, which has placed us at the leading edge of training in the oil and gas industries. As part of the Port Services Group we will be able to offer a much wider range of services benefiting both staff and customers.”
One of the immediate benefits of the new investment will be the development of a new facility to provide state-of-the-art training in areas such as lifting operations, emergency response, heli-deck skills and confined space entry and rescue.
PSEL was established as a separate division of the Port Services Group earlier this year and has already won a number of significant contracts. These include the recent completion of engineering work on the Ocean Nomad drilling rig at Invergordon, with work on the Ocean Guardian about to commence in the next few days. The company also recently finished upgrade projects on the Transocean Artic 3 rig in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, and on the Rowan ‘Gorilla 5’ jack-up rig in Dundee.
